Summer is almost here and with it comes that urge to go to the nearest beach and stay in the sun as long as possible. Some people prefer books, others are more into exercise but for most of us, having a cigar is a beach must-have.

Before starting the list, allow us to give you some pieces of advice. A lot of people search the beach for a relaxing time, away from stress and preoccupation. As cigar smokers, we know that some people do not like the smell of our precious cigars. Look for a quiet spot to put down your beach gear, we are trying to make our day better, not make other’s day worse. Pay attention to where the wind is blowing and be polite to others around you. If there are children around, don’t stay in a place where the smoke might blow directly to them. After all, we are all gentlemen here.

Another thing is to be aware that the temperature might be high and the sun might burn not just your skin but also raise your body temperature to a point that you can more easily feel the famous cigar nausea. Stay hydrated and try to enjoy your amazing cigar under a beach umbrella on a nice relaxing chair.

That being said, here is the list:

1. Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure De Luxe LCDH

This one is just a beauty. When you open the box, you immediately know you are in for a treat. The smell of milk chocolate and raisins will fill up the room where you are in. The flavors are overall sweet, ranging from chocolate, coffee, cream, and vanilla.

There is only one issue with this Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure De Luxe: after having one, you’ll want to light up another. However, you are relaxing at the beach so it shouldn’t be a problem. If you are a fan of sweet and cold chocolaty drinks, like those amazing cold Frappuccinos from Starbucks, you will be in heaven when you pair the two.

2. Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills

Moving to medium-body cigars, this is one that you can’t miss out on. It pairs great with light drinks such as sparkling water, lemonade, or even a fine rosé. Its size — 4.80″x50 — is friendly enough for a long walk by the sea with the water touching your feet. Its notes are floral, cedar, fruit, and leather.

You might be thinking “ok, but I prefer the Wide Churchills over the Short Churchills” and we would have to agree with you. However, for the beach, this is the one to go because it is lighter and the fruity and floral flavors combine perfectly with that soft breeze of the sea. Please remember that you are at the beach, hopefully on a hot summer day so please stay hydrated and as cool as possible.

3. H. Upmann Magnum 50

The H. Upmann Magnum 50 is considered a big cigar and that can throw some people off. However, what it has in size, it also has in flavor. It always stays below the medium-body range so you can enjoy it even in the hottest of summer days.

If you are that kind of person that grabs a cooler and head to the nearest beach, make sure to put some nice refreshing drinks inside because this cigar is so versatile that it goes well with almost anything. Its thirds are very well defined, the flavors range from leathery notes with hints of wood and even vanilla, capable of transforming a good day at the beach into an epic one.

4. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2

This very famous cigar was also a star on another article we wrote called Top 5 Cigars for Beginners and it is featured here again because of the same reasons. It is a light cigar, perfect for your relaxing day at the beach where you just want to enjoy your time outdoors.

It is not a very complex cigar and therefore you will enjoy it without being concentrated in identifying all the flavors and nuances it offers but if that is your ideal way to spend that hour at the beach, your Epicure No 2 will deliver. In addition to it, you are probably taking a bottle of water with you, and that makes the perfect pairing by similarity with this light cigar.

5. Quai D’Orsay No. 50

Very very light, super affordable, and most important, it pairs great with light drinks such as sparkling water, lemonade, or even a fine rosé. Its size — 4.70″x46 — is friendly enough for a long walk by the sea with the water touching your feet. Because of its ring gauge and blend, it is a cigar that never gets too hot. However, you have to remember that you are at the beach, hopefully on a hot summer day so please stay hydrated and as cool as possible.

As we said in the Top 5 Cigars for Beginners article, this cigar is by no means the best cigar you will have but you’ll soon find out that it is one that you will always have in your humidor. But on the other hand, it is not the most expensive cigar in the world. In fact, being a long-filler cigar from Cuba, it is one of the cheapest.
