There is one thing that long-time cigar aficionados and early beginners have in common: both love cigars with a lot of flavor. A cigar can be extremely well built, with a beautiful looking wrapper, with a perfect razor-sharp burn. However, if it does not have flavor, it is guaranteed that it is not going to be a pleasant experience. To maximize your experience, we have put together this list with the most flavorful cigars that we have ever had and that you can easily find.

1. Cohiba Lancero

This would not be an accurate list if it did not mention a Cuban masterpiece. Until this day, we never met a cigar aficionado that doesn’t adore a good Cohiba Lancero. It is one of the mos elegant vitolas ever created, so elegant that it was used as gifts to political figures and high-ranked officials.

Cohiba Lancero

Its thin body with a ring gauge of only 38 and its long length of 7.50″ is a cigar that will turn heads for a second look. With the tendency of smaller and fatter cigars, there is something very attractive about a Lancero. We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: the Lanceros are the top models of cigars, their long legs, and thin body are just to die for.

In the flavor profile, you can expect delicious notes of cream and almonds with some natural spice in it and also a bit of caramel. Once you reach the second and last third, the caramel and cappuccino flavor tend to intensify as well as its strength, going from a medium to full body cigar.

2. Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan

Remember the best cappuccino or latte you ever tasted? This is the cigar version of that wonderful memory. The creaminess you get when you light this cigar for the first time is incredible and you immediately start to wonder about how a light body cigar can deliver such a delicious flavor, but it does. And it only gets better with time.

There are some coffee notes, with a hint of milk chocolate and a lot of cream. The sweet smoke permeates your palate with a thick coating of cream and the better way to describe it is the way we began this text: imagine that you take a spoon and you scoop that top milky foam of your cappuccino and taste it, play around with it in your palate and close your eyes to really capture that texture and flavor. Then, take a puff of your Hoyo de San Juan and do the exact same thing with its smoke. Play with it, flirt a little bit before letting it out slowly.

If you are a pro, don’t miss the chance to retrohale it to enhance the cocoa notes that it delivers. It is the perfect pairing for your morning coffee or latte but it also goes very well with a light alcoholic drink like a sweet port wine. If you are a light-body cigar lover, this one is for you.

3. Partagas Serie D No. 4

Probably the best-selling cigar of the entire Habanos portfolio. It has been around since 1930, making it one of the oldest production cigars ever. Once you open a box of the D4s you know immediately that you are in for a treat. The chocolaty smell is almost sweet to the point that you want to chew on them.

The wrapper is a beautiful dark brown with some reddish tint on it, oily and with almost no relevant veins to the touch. But do not be fooled by the sweet smell and delicate appearance, this cigar will kick you in the mouth. It is a strong and full-bodied Robusto — 4.88″x50 — while still remaining smooth and creamy. Take your time while smoking this cigar because it truly deserves it.

4. Montecristo No. 2

Talking about Cuban classics, the Montecristo No. 2 belongs to that league. The iconic torpedo shape is a true delight to the eyes of every cigar smoker. It is a big and bold cigar, measuring 6.13″x52 with a beautiful light brown wrapper, very soft to the touch. You can expect some notes of spices and pepper alongside almonds and cedar.

While it starts very mellow and medium when you light it up it slowly evolves to a full body cigar in all its glory, without ever compromising the flavor. The first No 2 was introduced in 1935 and it remained untouched ever since, winning the #1 position in Cigar Aficionados’s ranking in 2013.

There are a lot of controversies and mixed feelings around it. Some say it is an amazing cigar, perfect for every occasion. Others may say it is not good at all for the most various reasons. This cigar is like a celebrity, either you love it or you hate it, there are no middle opinions about it. On this side of the fence, we happen to love it.

5. H. Upmann Royal Robusto LCDH

H. Upmann is one of the favorite brands for those who love the medium-body range packed with natural and pure Cuban tobacco flavor. The Royal Robusto is no exception. It is so good that it deserved the #6 spot in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25, in 2012.

The H. Upmann Royal Robusto is a very well constructed cigar, as are all the La Casa del Habano special editions, and it quickly became a very appreciated cigar in the community. Maybe because it has a very interesting balance. It is not overly sweet but it is not bitter also. It doesn’t have a lot of exotic flavors but it is full of natural ones. Something about this equilibrium makes the Royal Robusto very complex and very simple at the same time. Complex in its evolution and simple in the easiness you have to smoke it.

Typical Cuban flavors can be found immediately after the first puff. Cedar, barnyard, hay, and leather are very present and will only intensify over time. On the second third, there is a tiny hint of vanilla that becomes more present in the last third, finishing with some very creamy leather notes.
